After years of design and planning, the AMB Performing Arts Center opened in 2005, bringing to Southeastern Michigan a much desired performance venue. Originally debuting in October 1979 as a Golden Age Movie Theatre, it was operated by Acme Cinemas. Thirty years later, AMB purchased the Theatre and adjacent restaurant properties. In fall 1998, donations exceending $200 million were raised for the express purpose of contructing a multi-use Performing Arts Center on the site of the existing Theatre and adjacent properties.
Designed by Spencer Studio of Burton, construction of the PAC began in 2003 and includes a 9000 seat outdoor amphitheater, 699 seat and 184 theatres. The original Theatres and Restaurant buildings were torn down.
In the grand opening ceremony, special keynote speaker Robert Anderson said in his opening remarks, "It will be the mission of the AMB Performing Arts Center to bring productions of the highest quality for the dedicated arts patrons of Southeastern Michigan."
